GET DIGITAL - MAKE A DIFFERENCE - BECOME A DIGITAL CHAMPION.

Technology is evolving all the time but keeping pace can be a challenge. For some, the move to online and doing things digitally is a worry. It can leave some people feeling isolated or vulnerable.
Harrogate Council are aware that there is still a significant percentage of our residents who don't have any digital skills. That's why they are working with the digital inclusion charity Citizens Online to improve residents' basic digital skills and confidence to access online opportunities and services across the district.

The first stage of 'Get Digital' is to recruit digital champions across the district who will then be part of a network of champions. You do not need to be an IT expert for this role. As a Champion you will Improve your own digital and coaching skills, gain certificates and Open Badges for your CV or LinkedIn profile and access accredited training, resources and support through their online Digital Champions Network and local friendly team.

THE FORMER HENRY JENKINS PUBLIC HOUSE

A planning application made earlier in the year by the new owner of the Eastern annex, Mr Claybourn, for conversion to one dwelling was resubmitted with additional information in August last year. A decision to refuse permission was made in May. HJCP Ltd subsequently made an application for this section to be listed as an ACV which was unsuccessful. An Appeal on the planning decision has now been lodged by the owner.

A moritorium period under ACV rules on the western section ran from January to July 2019 but has now ended. Initially offers of £70,000 and £38,000 were made by HJCP Ltd for the western section and the eastern annex respectively but were rejected by the owners. An increased offer of £180,000 was then made for the whole building which has also been rejected. The western section has subsequently been offered to HJCP Ltd for a price of £230,000.

Further information and updates on the future of the building are available on the Henry Jenkins website:  ://www.thehenryjenkins.com/

SUNDAY SUMMER BUS

The Eastern Dalesbus 825 Service which comes through Kirkby Malzeard had a 56% increase in passengers this summer compared to last year, with 701 people using the service between Selby and Masham, so it is likely that the service will be available again next Summer which is good news.

BUS SHELTER NEAR KIRKBY STORES

Having investigated the issue of what to do about the bus shelter, it appears that it is used occasionally by school children waiting for the bus into School and the Parish Council have therefore decided to retain it and arrange for it to be upgraded, so that as well as being functional it will be a more attractive feature at that end of the village. They will be obtaining further quotes for joinery work but it is hoped that there can be a working party to carry out redecoration and possibly the addition of window boxes or similar to make it more appealing. In December a noticeboard was fitted inside the shelter for Village and Council notices.

THE LOCAL LOTTO

Harrogate Council launched a Local Lotto in Autumn 2018 in order to raise funds for local organisations throughout the District. You can support this fund raising initiative by buying tickets and of course you might even win a prize. For further details please go to the website: http://www.thelocallotto.co.uk/

LOCAL CRIME FIGURES

This link to the Police website gives some information about incidents in the whole of the Ripon area each month. Fortunately there is normally very little in our Parish but the fact that crime does happen regularly in the rest of the area should encourage us all to be vigilant here: http://www.police.uk/shape/q83qzk/
