LOCAL ORGANISATIONS

There's always plenty of events and activities in the Kirkby Malzeard area, many of which are arranged by the various local organisations. Where they have their own website we have provided a link, but in each case there is a brief description below of what they do, together with contact details. If you would like your organisation to be included please use the Contact Us link or phone 01765 658838 with details.

COMMUNITY FIRST RESPONSE

This valuable local service, manned by volunteers, is often the first on the scene when you dial 999 or 112, enabling vital first aid to be administered in the minutes before the paramedics and ambulance arrives. The Kirkby Malzeard group was formed in July 2013 and have been on-call for thousands of hours since and have attended over 36 incidents. Each member receives regular training and has access to the 'village' defibrillator as well as oxygen and other essential equipment. New volunteers are now needed so if you are interested please contact Pam Robson on 01765 658915 to find out more.

THE HIGHSIDE SINGERS

The local choir, under the direction of Keith Dale, meets at 7.30 pm on Tuesday evenings in the Kirkby Malzeard Methodist Chapel. They perform concerts for charity throughout the area principally during Winter and Spring. The Dallowgill local history group has met in the past at Greygarth Methodist Chapel on the second Sunday of most months starting at 3 pm but there are no regular meetings at present. They have undertaken detailed research into local families using the Census information, school registers etc and are now investigating the history of Carlsmoor. YORKSHIRE IN BLOOM

Kirkby Malzeard won Gold and was the Category Winner in the Medium Village section in 2016 and whilst this would not have been achieved without the dedicated efforts of local residents, significant work is undertaken by the Kirkby in Bloom team particularly in the run up to the twice yearly judging and on the judging days themselves. The group is always looking for new input, so if you are interested contact Pippa on pippa.manson@live.co.uk or on 01765 658168.

Please visit the Kirkby in Bloom page on this website for more information about the group and its activities.

ST. MICHAEL'S HOSPICE - FOUNTAINS SUPPORT GROUP

This is a fund raising group covering Kirkby Malzeard, Grantley, Sawley and Grewelthorpe which organises events such as Coffee Mornings and Afternoon Teas in order to raise money for St. Michael's Hospice in Harrogate. The group has raised over £40,000 since it was formed in 2000. If you are interested in helping please contact Rachel on 01765 658838.

KIRKBY MALZEARD LUNCH CLUB

Lunch Club meets in the Mechanics Institute on the first and third Tuesday of each month for a two course meal with tea/coffee. The meal is prepared and served by local volunteers who will also collect members unable to get there under their own steam! The club is open to anyone living alone but is often oversubscribed. For more information, including how you can volunteer to help, please contact Josie Pearson on 01765 658093.

KIRKBY MALZEARD WALKING GROUP

The group meet regularly throughout the year and undertake walks (normally about 6-7 miles long) within the surrounding areas. This year they will be doing the 38 mile Six Dales Trail from Wensleydale to Wharfdale over a number of stages and will also incorporate a number of other jaunts elsewhere in between! The group is sometimes oversubscribed but Michael Jordan on 01765 658117 will be able to advise on whether any spaces are available.
