The Yorkshire in Bloom Judges come to Kirkby on Friday 20 July from 10.30am. We will take them around most of the village to view our (hopefully!) clean and tidy village and everyone's lovely front gardens. Please help by weeding, tidying and sweeping in your area of the village. Many thanks!

For the third year running, in 2017 Kirkby Malzeard was awarded GOLD by the Yorkshire in Bloom judges.
Let's try for the same in 2018!

Kirkby Malzeard first entered the annual Yorkshire in Bloom competition in 1989 and has entered every year since.   We have been awarded Gold (the highest award)  in 2015, 2016, and 2017 and in 2016 we also won "Best in Category" (for a medium sized village).

We do so well because of the interest and support of the village community including the village school. Entering Yorkshire in Bloom helps Kirkby Malzeard be an attractive, tidy and colourful place in which to live, work and visit.

A small group of people coordinate our In-Bloom activities and our entry to the competition. Each year we remind villagers about the judging dates (usually April and July) and we organise some tidy ups before the day. We provide background information for the judges and show them around the village.

Throughout the year we and other villagers look after various areas and planting in the village including the playing fields, church yard, Pinfold, Jubilee Garden (opposite the Doctor's Surgery), the village welcome sign and many tubs and troughs. We usually hold a plant and seed swap in the autumn. Through the year we help with gardening activities at the school. We need to fund raise for various expenses including purchasing bedding plants and so we run some social events. We write occasional articles in the Ripon Gazette's gardening section.

We have a number of plans for the future including setting up an In-Bloom information window at the Mechanics Institute and developing a heritage information board in the village.

We are very grateful for all the support we have in the village. We welcome people to join our co-ordinating group. Please contact Pippa Manson on 658168 for more information.
