KIRKBY MALZEARD FOOTBALL CLUB

SEASON 2019-20

Saturday team - Highside Playing Field:

Although last season the first team finished fifth in the Premier Division, with a reserve team in Division One, it has been decided to rationalise the Saturday afternoon teams this year and so there is now only one team, who are playing in the 11 team Jan Sinker Memorial Division One of the Heck Foods Harrogate and District League, with Dan Brown and Brett Chalmers in charge.

Having drawn 2-2 with Boroughbridge Development,  Kirkby recorded a good 3-0 away win at Wetherby Athletic Reserves with goals from Glen Lyons (2) and Matt McKeone. Unfortunately in their next game at home to Harrogate Old Boys they lost 1-3 but they made up for it with an impressive 4-2 victory at Dalton with two goals from Ash Buckley and one each from Glenn Lyons and Matt McKeone.

On October 5th Kirkby were at home to Beckwithshaw Reserves in the Intermediate Cup and won 6-3 including two goals each for Glenn Lyons and Ash Buckley and another from Matt McKeone. They had another cup game the following Saturday away at Hampsthwaite Utd in the Hulme Cup but lost this one 4-2.

It was back to the league on October 19th with a home match against Beckwithshaw Saints Reserves resulting in a convincing 4-0 win with goals from Brandon Rowe (2), Glenn Lyons and Fred Wills. The away match against Kirkstall Crusaders on the 26th was postponed due to rain but on November 4 they played Thirsk Falcons Development team and won a very one-sided game 9-2 which included a hat trick for Ash Buckley.

The following Saturday they had their next match in the Intermediate Cup away to Boroughbridge Development team but lost 5-2. The game on November 16th against Burley Trojans was postponed as the pitch was waterlogged but the following Saturday they were away in the league against Thirsk Falcons Development team and came away with a credible 3-3 draw.

The matches scheduled for December were all postponed due to the wet weather but the fixtures began again with a home game against Burley Trojans First team on Saturday January 4th which regretably they lost 2-3. However they made amends on January 11th when they won 4-3 away against Boroughbridge Development and also secured a 2-2 draw the following Saturday when they were away at Harrogate Old Boys. On January 25 they played in the Sunley Challenge League Cup away at Kirkstall Crusaders losing 3-2. It was back to the league on February 1st with a home game against Wetherby Athletic which ended up as a 3-3 draw. On Saturday February 8th they lost 1-0 away at Harlow Hill Reserves but have the opportunity for revenge on February 22 when they play them again at home with a 2.00pm kick-off. They remain 6th in the league.
