NIDD ART TRAIL - Various studios are open throughout the Nidderdale area during the latter part of August

including South Park Pottery in Kirkby Malzeard and Jean and Richard Turners studio at Greygarth Dallowgill.

SOUTH PARK POTTERY - Selling exhibition of thrown and hand built pots richly decorated using slips and layers of glazes. Open 10.30 am to 4.30 pm each day. Part of the Nidd Art Trail.

AUGUST 25-28

GREYGARTH, DALLOWGILL - Jean and Richard Turner will be exhibiting their paintings including flowers, hares and landscapes each day from 10 am to 4 pm as part of the Nidd Art Trail

FAMILY FUN DAY - This afternoon at the Queens Head in Kirkby Malzeard - Bring the kids to play on the Bouncy Castle from 12 noon onwards. Children's Entertainer mid afternoon.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 2

FLOWER AND PRODUCE SHOW - The annual Kirkby Malzeard and District Show takes place today at the Mechanics Institute. All entries must be staged by 9.30 am and the doors open to the public at 1.30pm. Entry is £1 to include catalogue. Trophies awarded at 3.30pm with auction to follow.

QUEENS HEAD - Live acoustic music tonight at the village pub in Kirkby from Steph Baker. 

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 8

MECHANICS MUSIC CLUB - tonight sees the first monthly Music Night where all musicians including singers or groups playing any genre of music are welcome to have a go! - come along either to take part or just listen. The performances start at 8pm but the bar is open from 7.30pm. Entry is free this month.. 

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 9

PARISH COUNCIL EXHIBITION - The Parish Council are holding an exhibition at the Mechanics Institute from 10am to 12 noon to enable residents to view information on two significant topics which have arisen. It is being proposed that the parish precept charge paid by residents within their overall Council Tax payment be increased to provide extra funding for local organisations such as the Playing Fields Association and the Village Hall trustees. There are also proposals to develop land on Laverton Road in Kirkby Malzeard for up to 45 houses. Councillors and representatives of the organisations and the land owners will be present to explain the proposals. Coffee/tea will be served.

SPONSORED BIKE RIDE - Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust are holding a Fountains Benefice Ride and Stride today providing a chance to cycle round some of the churches in the benefice and raise money for the Trust and for local churches. KIRKBY IN BLOOM GARDEN VISIT - The group is visiting the private gardens at Littlethorpe Manor near Ripon and you are invited along. The charge is £6 with vehicles leaving Kirkby at 1.30pm - lifts available. Contact Beccy Mann on 650374 for more information.

MEETING CONCERNING THE FUTURE USE OF THE CLOSED CHURCH AT DALLOWGILL - The Diocese are holding an open meeting at Greygarth Chapel at 7pm to discuss alternative uses for the disused St Peters Church building. All interested parties welcome.

THE MOSAIC TRAIL - Its 20 years since the creation of the Crackpots Mosaic Trail in Dallowgill and to celebrate the anniversary there is an organised walk around the trail and a local history exhibition at Greygarth Chapel, with refreshments available. The 7 mile walk starts at 10 am from the Chapel and will include morning coffee, bbq lunch and snacks finishing with afternoon tea back at the Chapel. SUNDAY OCTOBER 22

BADAPPLE THEATRE - The latest production from this popular touring Theatre group entitled Salsa Verde is being preformed tonight at the Mechanics Institute starting at 7.30pm. The comedy follows two different generations of characters where a romantic love triangle seems destined to be repeated down the years.A wartime Bevan Boy and a naval recruit clash at the dance hall as do another thoroughly modern duo, fighting over the instructor at the local village hall Salsa night. AN EVENING WITH THE YORKSHIRE SHEPHERDESS  AMANDA OWEN - St Andrews Church is hosting

an evening of humorous and quirky tales charting the highs and lows of sheep farming in the Yorkshire Dales.

The event will commence at 7.30pm - tickets will be on sale from September 1 and will cost £10.
