Summer would not be the same in the heart of an English village, let alone a Yorkshire village, without a local cricket team to either play for, or support. Kirkby Malzeard Cricket Club plays it's home games on a Saturday afternoon at the Highside Playing Fields taking on opposition in Division 5 of the Theakston Nidderdale League, starting at 1.30 pm.

The club is always on the look-out for new players to strengthen its squad so if you are interested contact Iain Fraser on 658292 or Peter Kirk on 07983442477. The outdoor nets practice sessions start at Highside on Thursday April 12 at 6.30pm and there will also be coaching for juniors on Saturday mornings during the season - Iain or Peter can give you more details if you are interested.

The relegation battle went down to the last game of last season but unfortunately Kirkby just fell short of the points needed to stay up and so start this season in Division 5. Their first match is on April 28 away to Newton-le-Willows with a 1.30pm start. This is followed by a home game on May 5 against Burton Leonard 2nds.
