Summer would not be the same in the heart of an English village, let alone a Yorkshire village, without a local cricket team to either play for, or support. Kirkby Malzeard Cricket Club plays it's home games on a Saturday afternoon at the Highside Playing Fields taking on opposition in Division 5 of the Theakston Nidderdale League, starting at 1.30 pm.

The club is always on the look-out for new players to strengthen its squad so if you are interested contact Iain on 658292 or Peter on 07983442477. The outdoor nets practice sessions are on Thursdays at 6.30pm and there will also be coaching for juniors on Saturday mornings during the season - Iain or Peter can give you more details if you are interested.

The team finished the season on a winning note beating Ripley in a very low scoring game finished a credible 4th in the league. Kirkby batted first and made 89 all out with Charles Harford-Cross top scoring with 28. In reply Ripley were 75 all out with Alan Brownlee taking 7 wickets for only 32 runs - one of the best bowling performances of the season.
